Features in detail
Local storage
All your data is stored exclusively on your device. There is no cloud synchronization, no server access and no hidden data transfers. Your passwords are as safe as your smartphone itself.
That also means: if you have no internet, the app still works. And if our servers were to go offline – which is technically impossible, because there are none – your app remains fully usable.
AES-256 encryption
Sensitive content is encrypted with AES-256 – the same standard banks and governments use worldwide. Encryption keys are derived locally from your master password and managed by the hardware-backed Android Keystore.
What does that mean in practice? Even if someone stole your phone and read out its storage: without your master password, all data is unreadable digital noise.
Biometric login
Instead of entering your master password every time, you can unlock the app with a fingerprint or face recognition. Biometrics are cryptographically bound to your master password – a simple system permission is not enough.
Important: if you add a new fingerprint on your device, biometrics are reset once for security reasons. This prevents newly added biometric data from gaining unwanted access.
2FA codes right in the app
MyLocalSafe can generate TOTP codes – just like Google Authenticator or Authy, but directly in your vault. Simply scan or enter the 2FA secret during setup, and the app generates the current code every 30 seconds.
You can also scan QR codes shown to you during 2FA setup. Detection runs entirely locally on your device – no images are transmitted anywhere.
Autofill service
With the Android Autofill service, MyLocalSafe fills your credentials automatically into apps and browsers – fast, secure and convenient. Enable it once in the Android settings, and it works everywhere.
For Chrome users: in Chrome you additionally need to enable "Autofill using another service". That is a Chrome quirk, but handled with a single tap in the Chrome settings.
Encrypted archives
Create password-protected ZIP archives with all your entries, photos and documents. You choose where to store them: cloud, USB stick, external drive or simply another device.
The archives use AES-256 and can be imported again at any time – including on a new smartphone. This is your path to a secure move or to recovering after device loss.
Emergency PDF
For the absolute emergency, you can create an encrypted PDF with all your credentials. Protected with 128-bit AES, print it or keep it in a safe place – ideal for estate planning or as a last safety net.
Important: the emergency PDF is as confidential as a vault key. Destroy it securely when you no longer need it.
Password health check
The app analyzes your stored passwords and shows you:
- Weak passwords that are too short or too simple
- Duplicate passwords that you use on multiple sites
- Old passwords that have not been changed for over a year
From this, an overall score out of 1000 points is calculated – an easy way to keep an eye on your password hygiene.
Smart password generator
Need a new password? The built-in generator creates cryptographically secure passwords – either as classic cryptic character strings or as memorable word combinations (similar to "CorrectHorseBatteryStaple").
You can freely adjust length, character set and composition.
CSV import from other managers
Switching from another password manager? No problem. The CSV import reads data from Excel, other password managers and arbitrary spreadsheets – with smart column detection and a manual correction option for complicated data sets.
Clipboard protection
When you copy a password to the clipboard, it is automatically cleared after 60 seconds. From Android 13 onward, the copied content is additionally marked as "sensitive" and not shown in plain text in the clipboard preview.
